On this 4WD tour you’ll spend a day meandering along Parry's Creek Road visiting the springs, waterfalls, and lagoons that feed the Lower Ord River. We'll spot for crocs and birds in the river and billabongs, pop up to some spectacular lookouts, then carry on along the King River Road to the iconic Diggers Rest Station for sunset nibbles by a boab-lined billabong or go on an optional sunset horse-ride.
Pick-up from your accommodation or meeting point before tour commences.
9:00am: Leaving Kununurra via Ivanhoe Road you’ll learn about the Ord Irrigation areas as you pass by the varied crops. After Ivanhoe Crossing we’ll meander along Parry Creek Road ducking into Middle Springs and Black Rock Falls, then down to the Lower Ord River to spot for birds and crocs.
10:30am: Travelling further west we’ll stop for some morning tea under a big Boab before heading to the Marlgu Billabong in Parry Lagoon Nature Reserve and Ramsar Wetlands. Here you’ll witness a spectacular display of water lillies and vast array of birdlife, not to mention the fresh and saltwater crocodiles.
12:00pm: After stopping to take in the wetland views from the hilltop site of the old telegraph receiving station, we’ll call in to Parry Creek Farm where you can use the facilities, have/purchase lunch and even do some more bird watching.
1:00pm: Time permitting we’ll whizz up the Bastion to the Five-Rivers Lookout overlooking the glassy Gulf waters and historic port of Wyndham before heading across the mudflats to the tree-lined King River Road, stopping in at some Aboriginal art sites, prison boab tree and King River viewpoints.
2:30pm: Arrive at Diggers Rest Station for a quick tour around the homestead with its history and movie-set infamy before driving or riding on horseback to a billabong for sunset drinks and nibbles with our human, avian and equine companions.
5:30pm: After sundown we’ll head back to Kununurra to drop you off at your accommodation or meeting point by around 7:00pm.
